4-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy Has Sweetest Reaction After Taking 1st Steps

‘I’m walking!’

Four-year-old Maya Tisdale of Traverse City, Michigan, has faced some big challenges in her life, but you would never know it to look at her. The adorable little girl always has a big smile on her face and joy overflowing from her heart!

Very early in her life, Maya was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. The condition causes the muscles in her hips, legs, and feet to be tight or spastic, which makes it very difficult for her to stand or walk without assistance.

Maya works hard every day to strengthen and stretch her muscles, and her determination and positive attitude through even the most difficult of circumstances have earned her the nickname, “Mighty Miss Maya.”

Working hard. Having fun. #danceoff #stronglegs

Seeing their daughter’s hard work and determination convinced her parents that it was time to take the next step forward and have her undergo surgery that would one day allow her to walk independently.

Just two months after the surgery, Maya was about to defy all odds and leave her doctors – and the rest of the world – in tears! Maya’s dad captured the moment she took her first steps unassisted, and her reaction to the huge moment is priceless!

Maya’s grandparents set up a YouCaring page to help cover the procedure and costly post-op therapy, and the page has already raised over $21,000 of the $25,000 goal! If you would like to donate to help Maya continue her recovery, click here!
