The fires that raged through that state of California last month brought unimaginable pain and devastation. In the midst of the chaos, though, we were also able to witness many stories of hope.
Many people – including celebrity chef Guy Fieri and singer Lady Gaga – gave of their time and money to help those who were fighting the fires and those who had lost everything. Strangers opened up their hearts and homes to those in need, showing incredible love and compassion in spite of their own hardships.
The stories that have come out of this tragedy are truly incredible. Some, you might even call miraculous.
When actress Brenda Epperson, known for her role on the soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” saw the fires moving closer to her home and her horses, she knew there was only so much she could do.
Her horse trailer could only fit three horses on it, so she and her husband loaded it up and evacuated with what they could. They were heartbroken to leave their other animals and their home behind, but there was nothing more they could do.
Well, almost nothing.
With the safety of her home and her horses out of her hands, Brenda knew there was only one thing she could do: pray.
She began to pray the words of Psalm 91 over her home and the terrifying situation:
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in his mighty shadow. I will say of the Lord he is my refuge and my God in whom I trust. Surely, he will save you from the fowler’s snare and the deadly pestilence. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand but it will not come near you.”
When the fires had gone through and Brenda was able to return to her property, she wasn’t sure what she would find. She expected everything would be a pile of ash and rubble, but what she found instead left her dumbfounded.
In a video posted to Facebook, Brenda showed the fence surrounding her property and then zoomed in on how close the fire came. The fire had stopped just feet away from her property!
Brenda knows God was watching out for her and her animals and protecting them all through the horrific ordeal.
“I have been so overwhelmed by God’s faithfulness through this journey and what He’s done,” Brenda said.
The Eppersons weren’t the only ones who had to leave their animals behind. Many neighbors had also been forced to abandon their horses as they fled the encroaching flames.
Amazingly, all of the neighboring horses found their way onto the Epperson’s property – 35 horses in all. Miraculously, none of them were harmed. They didn’t even have any ash on them!
Now, Brenda and her family are using their blessings to help others who were affected by the fires by transporting them to their homes and giving them food and supplies. Brenda believes that good will continue to come out of this tragedy.
“The good that’s going to come out of it is I believe that revival, that God is going to wake us all up,” she said. “I know my life is changed and I just want to share the love of God even more with everybody.”
“I just want to say that God’s love is there for each one of us if we would just simply say, ‘Yes,’” she continued. “And it’s been an honor helping friends and neighbors.”
These have been trying times for the people of California, but Brenda hopes they will find hope and peace in the midst of it all and turn their hearts to God.
Do you believe in miracles? Then share it!
