The competition on America’s Got Talent this season has been fierce. It’s clear that America, indeed, has got talent!
On Tuesday night, only 10 acts were left competing for the $1 million dollar prize: singer Evie Clair, dancers Diavolo, singer Chase Goehring, singer Angelica Hale, singer Mandy Harvey, comedian Preacher Lawson, dance troupe Light Balance, singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer, singer Kechi, and animal act Sara and Hero.
While there were a few clear favorites, it was anybody’s guess as to who would win this season’s top honor.
By the end, the running had been narrowed down to two – Darci and 10-year-old singing powerhouse Angelica Hale, another of the season’s breakout stars. In a national talent competition, the top two contenders were not even teenagers!
During the finale show, fan-favorite Darci Lynn and her puppet Petunia got to perform with Darci’s “idol” Terry Fator, who won season 2 of America’s Got Talent with his puppet, Winston the Impersonating Turtle. The two (or four, if you include Petunia and Winston) sang an adorable and competitive rendition of “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun.
Angelica and fellow finalist Kechi sang Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and were joined onstage by the superstar herself!
Across the nation, 52 million people cast their votes. The only thing left to do was announce the winner.
As Darci and Angelica took the stage, host Tyra Banks stood between them and built up the suspense. Both girls waited, teary-eyed, to hear who had won. As the pregnant pause wore on, Darci looked up at Tyra, begging her with her eyes to just read the winner’s name and end the suspense.
Then, Tyra picked up the card and brought the microphone to her lips…
The winner was Darci Lynn!!
Darci immediately broke down in tears, hugging her puppet close as confetti rained down and reality began to sink in.
Ever the class act, Angelica ran over to give Darci a hug and congratulate her on her win.
For a girl who was once too shy to even look someone in the eye when they were talking, Darci has certainly come a long way! She attributes some of her new-found confidence to her act, and the rest to this life-changing show.
“I was very, very shy but America’s Got Talent has given me a voice and more confidence than I could ever have,” she said.
Darci is the third female act to win the show in 12 seasons. In addition to the title, she also wins $1 million and a headlining gig at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas from Sept. 3-4.
We are so happy for this talented young lady and can’t wait to see what the future holds. Darci Lynn is certainly a star, and we’re confident she’ll go far!
We all have a little good inside us. So share it!
