Christmas is usually a time for families to come together and enjoy the holiday season. Unfortunately, there are some professions that don’t always allow for a Christmas break.
Pierce is a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines and was scheduled to work over the holidays. When her dad, Hal, heard that she would be working, he was disappointed that he wouldn’t get to see her.
But then the devoted father came up with a brilliant plan: if Pierce had to fly on Christmas, he would fly with her!
Hal got Pierce’s flight schedule and then booked himself seats on all six of her flights!
One of Hal’s seatmates, Mike Levy, was so touched by this father’s gesture that he shared the heartwarming story – along with pictures of the sweet father and daughter – on Facebook.
“The flight was from Fort Myers (Florida) to Detroit,” Mike told CNN. “While chatting with Hal, I mentioned I was heading back home. He then told me about his daughter working as our flight attendant and how he was along for the ride to spend Christmas with her.
“I was amazed and thought he was such a phenomenal father for going well out of his way to be with his daughter.”
“Pierce is very sweet,” Mike added. “She definitely knows now how great her dad really is.”
Sure enough, Pierce later shared Mike’s post and added a quick update.
“Dad’s first trip using his benefits was a success!” she wrote. “A special thanks to all of the patient, wonderful gate agents around the country and my perfect crew. He made it on every flight and even got first class RSW-DTW (Christmas miracle).”
For Hal, this adventure was an especially meaningful one as it was his first time back on an airplane after a devastating accident earlier this year.
“He is still recovering from a neck injury from earlier in the year, which had left him quadriplegic for a period,” Mike revealed. “This was his first trip since the accident.”
People all over the country and the world have been touched by Hal’s devotion to Pierce and have shared the story far and wide. It even got back to Delta, who shared their own thoughts about Hal’s sweet gesture:
“We appreciate all of our employees for working during the holidays to serve Delta customers, and love seeing this awesome Dad having the chance to spend Christmas with his daughter — even while crisscrossing the country at 30,000 feet,” their statement said.
