I’m sure there are many women who would say their husbands are their heroes, but after what happened at Zac and Cindy Edwards’ wedding, Cindy knows for sure that her new husband is one!
The Alabama couple had planned a nice, simple wedding by the water in Orange Beach. The beautiful ceremony was everything they had hoped for as they said their vows surrounded by their closest family and friends.
But as the couple began to take their post-ceremony photos, the day suddenly took a dramatic turn.
A woman ran up to them and told them there was a boogie boarder in distress in the water nearby.
“A lady had come up to us and said that guy is out there struggling,” Cindy said. “He can’t get back, he’s having a hard time.”
As soon as he heard that, Zac, a former lifeguard and coast guardsman, knew he had to try to save him.
“And he goes to start taking his shirt off and he went off to take off his bottoms and I was like, ‘You don’t have time!’ The guy kept drifting further and further out and he was struggling,” Cindy recounted.
“She said, ‘Don’t worry about your pants, just go,'” Zac recalled. “See, you’ve got to listen to your wife because otherwise, you’re in trouble.”
Heeding his new wife’s words, Zac ran into the angry waters toward 18-year-old Jamel Robinson, who was struggling to keep his head above water. The whole time he was out there, all Zac could think of was his new wife standing in the surf in her beautiful white wedding gown.
Thankfully, Zac was able to rescue Jamel and pull him to safety.
“It beat us up pretty hard getting in and we pulled up on the beach everybody grabs him,” Zac said.
That’s when he looked up to see Cindy rushing toward him.
“I got up and she’s running out in her wedding dress,” he said. “I’m bleeding from the nose and trying to tell her, ‘Get away!’ because I know how important that dress was, and I didn’t want to ruin that.”
The newlyweds say they are thankful they were at the beach that day so Zac could save Jamel. They also know they have an incredible wedding story to share for years to come!
“It’s a story to tell, I told her. The grandkids are going to have a story to tell,” Zac said. “It was a perfect day. Beautiful wedding.”
As for Cindy, she knows she just made the best decision of her life.
“Hero and hubby in the same day,” she said.
Do you agree that Zac is a hero? Then share it!
