Deployment is hard on families. Not only is it difficult for the soldier who is far away, but it is also tough on the people they leave behind.
When Air Force Staff Sergeant Chelsey Speicher was sent on her first deployment, she knew it was her duty, but it also broke her heart because she was leaving behind her husband and their 2-year-old son, Bennett.
The family was able to talk every other day for the six months Chelsey was stationed in Jordan, but she didn’t know if that was enough. Would Bennett recognize her and know her when she returned?
When it was finally time for her to come home, Chelsey was so excited, but she was also nervous, not knowing how Bennett would react to seeing her.
She anxiously made her way through the airport toward her waiting family, and when Bennett saw her she knew she’d had nothing to be nervous about!
“Mommy!” Bennett said as he grabbed her face, in disbelief that she was really there in front of him.
What a beautiful and precious reunion – one this overjoyed momma will never forget!
