Tim Tebow Reveals The Sweet Surprise He Planned For Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters When He Proposed

“I wanted everything to be perfect”

The internet has been abuzz ever since Tim Tebow announced that he had proposed to his girlfriend, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, and she said yes!

Tebow, a former college and NFL quarterback, is known for his great plays on the field, but he is perhaps even more well-known for his commitment to Christ and his decision to stay celibate until marriage.

Many wondered if he would ever find the woman of his dreams, and Tebow himself seemed to have doubts at times.

“I’m looking, but I just can’t seem to find anyone,” he told PEOPLE in 2017. “I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person.”

But he had high standards for the woman he would marry, and he wasn’t willing to settle.

“I’m just looking for someone who has a good heart,” he said. “They have to be kind, and they have to care about people who can’t do anything for them in return.”

“They have to really love God,” he added. “My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”

Well, it seems he has finally found that someone in former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

Tebow proposed to the South African beauty queen on Wednesday at sunset at his family’s farm outside Jacksonville, Florida.

Ever the romantic, Tebow had the whole thing planned to a T. The couple strolled along the property and then stopped next to a small lake where he had installed an arbor and a special bench engraved with the date the couple first met.

For several minutes, the pair talked about their relationship and its future. Then Tebow got down on one knee.

“Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, I love you,” he said. “Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, will you marry me?”

As she said yes, Tebow placed a gorgeous 7.25-carat solitaire ring on her finger.

“This ring is internally flawless,” he told her. “Just like you.”

Just then, South African singer Matthew Mole stepped out from behind a hay bale and serenaded the couple with “The Wedding Song,” one of their favorites.

But the surprises weren’t over yet!

Tebow had secretly flown Nel-Peters’ family and close friends in from South Africa. They, along with Tebow’s family and friends, watched the proposal from a distance. Once Nel-Peters said yes, they all came out of hiding to join the happy couple, much to the surprise of the bride-to-be!

Tebow says he wasn’t nervous about asking Nel-Peters to marry him – he just wanted the proposal to go smoothly.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” he said. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

After the engagement, the whole group went out for dinner to celebrate the happy couple. Several family members and friends made toasts, and then Nel-Peters’ father had everyone come around the couple to pray for their new life and future together.

“I’m sure she’s got some great ideas,” Tebow said of his fiancée. “It’s going to be really exciting, and I can’t wait.”

“I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim,” Nel-Peters added.

It may have taken some time, but Tebow is happy that he waited for the perfect woman to be his wife.

“She’s just perfect for me,” he said. “I’m really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life.”

We wish this sweet couple all the best as they plan the rest of their lives together!
